A Place to Belong: Building Community Around a Shared Cause

Once we understood what the gatherings meant to people, we began to build them around connection as much as around the work.

This session, held on [INSERT: date] with around [INSERT: number] people, deliberately made room for conversation, shared food and time together alongside the sorting and packing. What had started as a practical task was becoming a place to belong.

Keeping cultural bonds alive

For a diaspora community far from home, spaces to gather, speak openly and maintain cultural ties are precious. Around the packing tables, people could be among others who understood their situation without needing to explain it — and that understanding is its own kind of support.

Work and warmth, side by side

The supplies still got counted and packed — that remained the point. But people left with more than a job done: they left with a sense of connection and of being part of something that mattered. [INSERT: a detail or photo from this session.]

Every gathering turns donated supplies into lifelines for patients in Sudan — and a source of connection here in Belfast.
