The Smallest Patient: Baby Nour’s Story

An illustrative story. To protect the privacy and dignity of the people we serve, this account does not portray a real, identifiable individual. It is a fictional story drawn from the real experiences and outcomes of Giving Island’s work, written to convey the human reality behind the supplies we deliver.

Some of the patients we help are only days old. Baby Nour was born with a congenital condition that required surgery and a stoma in the very first weeks of life.

For her parents, the joy of a new baby arrived alongside fear and a steep learning curve. Caring for an infant’s stoma is delicate work at the best of times; in the middle of a war, with the right small-sized supplies almost impossible to find, it felt overwhelming.

Access to the appropriate supplies removed an enormous source of daily anxiety. Guidance from a nurse gave Nour’s parents the confidence to care for her safely, and connection with other families facing similar journeys reminded them they were not alone.

Nour is growing. Her story is a reminder that the supplies we deliver protect the most vulnerable of all — and give a family room to simply love their child.

Behind every story like this is a simple thing: the right supplies, delivered in time.
