Travelling with a Stoma: A Practical Checklist

A stoma is no barrier to travel. With a little planning, you can journey comfortably and confidently.

Pack more than you need

Take at least twice the supplies you expect to use, in case of delays. Keep a day’s supplies in your hand luggage rather than packing everything away, so you are always prepared.

Keep a kit close

A small grab-bag with a pouch, wipes and a disposal bag means you can manage a change anywhere. Pre-cut flanges before you travel if you usually cut your own.

Stay comfortable on the journey

Drink enough water, especially in hot weather, and wear comfortable clothing that does not press on your stoma. Know where facilities are along your route so you can change in comfort when you need to.
